Fished the north end in deeper water using a deep diving crank bait. Marked baitfish with scattered larger fish on the finder. Few casts later, got the following small bass.
I'm loving cranking. A few more casts, and then I feel the weight and the thumping. This one feels good. Got the bass to the boat and this was 3lb 5oz. Not a giant, but really fun.
Got one more decent one on a swim jig before calling it a day.

Mon, 16 Aug 2010 02:30:47 GMTFished a couple of hours both days this weekend on local lakes to home.
The 1st I haven't hit much this year, but I'm glad I went back. The water quality improved greatly and the fishin was good too. Mostly threw my new Skeet Reese crankbait rod out deep, but fished a couple of good spots shallow too. Caught fish anywhere from the shoreline on frogs, jigs and senkos on docks, swimbaits and crankbaits on the weedlines/drop offs. Didn't catch a ton, maybe 12, but they were all nice fish. Biggest came off a point with some good grass on a crank. Close to 5 if she wasn't.
2nd day went to a different lake. Fished mostly deeper near the weedline with different crankbaits and swimbaits. Caught a couple 2.5's off one small stretch with my new crank rod. Caught some fish up in the bush with my 4x4 jig. Caught some fish out deep, on my c rig. Kinda just junk fishin and doin well all over, but gotta keep the moooove on! I'm lovin fishin in this nice wind we've had lately!

We had west winds all morning with in and out haze and partly cloudy skies. When we got there it was already 80 and super humid.
We got there around 6:00-6:30 am and were kind of stuck on places to go due to the number of guys out there already perch fishing. We weren't fishing in the harbor but out on main lake using mainly dropshot rigs with either 1 hook or 2 hooks using small fathead minnows and or regular frozen crawfish. We were trying to find soft shells but it seems like everywhere is either sold out or just doesn't have them in stock. Also at the end of the day we had barely any minnows left and to save them we decided to wacky rig em like alex, steve, and I did for walleyes on the illinois. That also produced. I did try some plastics on dropshot, as well as small jigs, and neil tried a blade bait, but it seemed like the only artificials they were taking was shad raps some of the other guys were throwing.
The neat thing was most of the guys left by 8:00 am they stopped catching fish. As soon as they left we went over there and by 8:30 the bite was on. We were getting picked up on almost every cast and we caught probably a good 20-30 perch but a lot of them being unfortunately small.
We ended up catching 16 keeper perch nothing really jumbo but some close to the 10-12 in range. Most fish were caught within 50 feet from the wall, either letting the bait sit on the bottom or working it in like a dropshot. The areas we were fishing had chunk rock tight to shore that transitioned to sand bottoms, then to some sort of thick vegetation.
In the chunk rock we saw the occasional rockbass, millions of gobies, small largemouth, and a few smallmouth but all weren't over 5 inches. Also giant drum cruising. In the sand area perch would come in and out of that area that transitioned to vegetation.
Sorry about no pics, but I'm beat and need to sleep and i didn't take any:muahaha:
By the time we left around 12:30 or so we had gone through 5 dozen small fatheads and 3-4 dozen craws. BTW the craws were rigged usually by the tails and the heads were pinched off.
It was great to throw myself and the other guys a curve ball and go perch fishing. I haven't done it in years and it was a great experience. I wouldn't mind going out there again but this time maybe a little earlier and on a day where the temp isn't in the 90's by 11:00 am.
