I've been catching a lot of bass with Black Spots all over them? This is happening all over the Chain. Petite, Fox River North and South, and Channel Lake.
What are these spots?
Are they bad for the fish?

I emailed the fisheries biologist of dupage and he had this to say.
" "Black Spot" is a common parasite of fresh water fish. It is quite common in the upper Midwest and can be found in just about every fresh water fish in the region, including perch, northern, bass, bluegill and crappie. It will not harm humans, if the fish is cooked correctly."
cook the bass correctly? ewww! it's like marinating a paycheck before you stick it in the grill!

I was told a long time ago, the spots are the bass changing color from deep to shallow water or cover to open sunlight. I have seen this mostly on the chain, but have seen it on other lakes. During a tournament, one of my bigger bass had these spots and that was the way we could identify him. At the end of the day we had to DBL check our fish because the spots were gone.
