Well the crew assembled in the morning, consisting of tc, myself, a friend of mine, alex, and tracy, and don labrose and also all the other volunteers from either local clubs or forest preserves.

We all got there around 7:30 am for the meeting and we knew that this year was going to be an interesting one due to the fact of kids being allowed access to the entire lake a week before opening day, and also no adults allowed to fish.!!

In the morning we were greeted by temps below freezing ranging in the low to mid 20's with winds already picking up from the east.

all of us that volunteered were pretty much in charge of giving out free bait consisting of night crawlers, wax worms, and new to this year powerbait dough bait.

Here's tracy smiling for the camera!!

Don labrose was there giving out plenty of rod and reel combo's to the kids that didn't have setups to use.

Also new to this year was a representative from cabelas that came out, also a girl from the daily herald, and this time the forest preserve had a booth to promote lakes in the area.

It was great to see all the kids smiling after another successfull even though it was a lot colder than last years event.

In the morning tommy and his kids' bite was quite slow, alex had told me some nice catches were caught on the wind protected side of the lake so I headed over there to investigate. People were catching trout on everything here, but with the most dominant bait being the powerbait dough.

There were also a lot of bigger trout caught here. From what I heard the largest rainbow that was caught was 24 inches long !!!

Great photos Max. I want to thank all the "Fish The Nation" volunteers that came out on a very cold and windy day to assist with the third annual "Trout Fishing For Kids" Program. Our final number of kids participating in the program was 178. I would say that a good majority of the kids caught at lease one trout and had fun doing it. If anyone has photos of the event please send me a copy to dlabrose@dupageforest.com
I would appreciate it. My camera malfunction due to the cold weather. Again THANK YOU for your volunteer help and the kids thank you too. Good Fishing!

Folks. This was another successful opening trout fishing day for the kids! Don, this was a great idea....JUST KIDS CATCHING FISH for four hours! The times were also kid friendly...from 8 am till Noon. It was truly enjoyable.

The size of these trout were so much bigger than in the past! They put on an incredible fight for the kids:win:

Great Pics Max!

Thanks again!
