Congratulations to Rock_Strongo A.K.A. Mike, to the 5# bass club! I am going to let him give the details but I wanted to tell the story from a spectator's view. So here it is........ Father's Day..... After we had spent time w/ the Family, filled to the gut I might add, I called up Mike to see if he wanted to go out for couple hours of fishing. After conformation....I packed up 2 beers and headed over to pick Rock up. We pulled up to our spot and we made a lil Father's Day toast....Mike has 2 kids of his own also. We finished the beers and set up for some evening fishing. I eventually ended up a good hundred yards away but could still see Rock. (For setting the pic, imagine this lake as a triangle). About 30 mins into our lil adventure...I looked up to see a huge splash coming from Mike's spot. I really didnt think much else until....I saw this good size fish start floppin down the bank!!!! Then came Mike. He was flopping about as much as the fish! If I had a video Mike and I might be 10k richer. So he gets down to the water while the fish is desperately trying to escape and ends up slipping one foot into the pond. (At this point I was about to bust my gut, laughing so hard.) I was relieved to see that Mike had gotten the fish under control and started to head over for a pic. He started to yell for me so I started to pic up the pace to a nice jog. When I turned the corner to see Mike holding up a nice fish(I thought maybe 3-4#) I went into a dash....as soon as I got to Mike I saw the real size of the fish! I told Mike that it could be a 6# fish. We weighed it making sure to keep the hook of the scale away from the gills....it was a SOLID 5# fish!!!! Congratulations Mike!!!! That Father's Day will be a memorable trip for years to come. I will be posting a pic for Mike's side of the story under Illinois-Local Ponds posts. Mike, you are an official member to the "Mass Bastard Club".

This is the biggest bass I've ever caught! I'm still happy, and plan to be for a while to come. My goal for this season was to catch a five pounder, and now that I have, I don't know where to go from here. Six I guess. Anyway, Atitagain pretty much summed it up. I imagine it had to be way funnier from his point of view. I was working a purple Texas rigged worm not to far off shore, when about five feet out I felt the lightest tap on my lure. I thought it was probably a bluegill but decided to set the hook anyway.(cuz, after all, hooksets are free right?) To my surprise it turned out to be a bass and a pretty big one at that. Then it jumped, and I realized this was no two or three pounder. All I could think was "please don't break off, please don't break off". Luckily it didn't, until I pulled it up on shore a little way and went to lip it. As I bent over to grab it, it snapped it's head and broke the line at the knot. It then proceeded to attempt to flop back in the water. I thought " Not today Big Boy!" and scrambled after it sticking one of my feet in the pond in order to grab a-hold of it with both hands. I got it under control and was able to lip it. At this point I was frickin' shaking with excitement and I had other dudes that where fishing asking what I used etc. I resisted the urge to yell "now's not the time", and called Steve over to get the pic after the weigh in. I was still shaking for a while afterwards. So anyway, long story long, this turned out to be my best father's day ever( so far), and not to toot my own horn but, BEEP BEEP!
