What a fun weekend it turned out to be except on tourney day... friday in the pooring rain i totally clobbered the bass.. put the boat in and the temp gauge says 64 so out comes my topwater... i caught 30 bass that day with my biggest five around 18lbs and i lost a 5lber at the boat... saturday it was a bit tougher as my dad and i could only manage 9 keepers for about 14lbs but 7 of em were from one area that we new would be out of the wind... sunday heading to the place i got them on friday and the gear box in the lower unit goes out.... so we be floating down river and i got tired of sitting in the boat so i start throwing a chatterbait to a sand bank just looking to catch anything cause i was bored... we come to a small patch of rocks and bingo... in main current i made 10 cast and caught 5 keeper largemouth.... so we float down river to a backwater pocket that has a boat ramp so if we cant catch a ride with another tourney boat to weigh the fish in at least we can get boat out... i managed to cull 2 more times and someone thank god came in and took me with my fish to the weigh in... we had 5 for 12.98lbs and had a top ten finish somewhere.... 21lbs won the tourney and 17 was 2nd...they paid 4 or 5 spots which ended up being 13.38lbs... we never even fished water we wanted to and was .30 lbs away from a check.. not bad i guess... water is super low for this time of year so if you head over be very careful... good luck all....

that's pretty cool that you were still able to catch almost 13 lbs drifting down river :) nice job and good luck this year out there. When you say you're catching em on topwater are you throwing frogs already or something else?

a few on frogs but mainly horney toads, gambler cane toads, boy howdies, devil horses, and torpedos.. the prop baits have been the best bet fished slow... but they are custom painted colors... not the original colors you can actually buy but the way they are hitting it i dont think it matters...

Man that sucks Dave! Great job sticking that one out though. Maybe it'll help ya toward that AOY title.
I remember a day my pops blew the lower unit on the boat and we drifted however many miles back downriver thankfully, and just whacked em! Every sandbar/rockbar/eddy had smallies on it! I think it was Pool 9.

Never fished the ol Boy Howdy Max?

Prop baits are stellar for post spawn for me.

Never really tried prop baits too much. Not the longer ones anyways. Why don't I ever see you throwing one ryan?
