here it goes,

JUNE 13, 2009. Went out early around 8:30 with a buddy of mine, began on a shallow weed bed tossing a favorite spinner of mine its a KVD chartreuse green orange with a small amount of black on the front of the skirt with two gold colorado blades, had two small bass maybe 1lb-1.5lb and my buddy was casting a senko worm black 5" wacky rigged with a blood hook, we ended up being lucky enough to drift over a hole in the center of this bed where a big bluegill bed was and he hit 3 bass as we drifted over so i changed to a senko green 5" with black flake and drove around for another drift and we both caught 2 fish, i kinda got back into real fishing mode (i think senko fishing is way to easy to produce fish haha but i still love it when the bites hard) so i went out to a deeper weed bed that usually produces fish for me. I put the KVD spinner back on and got a great cast right up the edge of the bed right when the lure got within sight range i saw a good sized shadow following the lure and right before i got it to the boat the bass nailed the spinner and took a small run, he didnt get far and i pulled him out, i didnt have a scale but id say around 3lbs ill post the pic later, the bass was one of the longest ive pulled out of the lake i caught more short fat bass this year so im thinking this was a male cause he was long and leaner. It was about 0930 so the skiers started to come out and pester the fishermen so i figured it was time to join them and we ended up pulling our lines and doing some wakeboarding.

Got off shift and had work at 1000 so i figured id kill some time and go fish a little, got out and the lake was glass with great visibility so i hit my shallow weed bed for a few spinner casts with no luck, ended up heading to the deeper bed i fish thinking it was so hot and clear the fish would be looking for cooler water with cover, casted for about a half hour with the kvd spinner and got no hits at all, it was around 0910 and i ended up changing pace to a texas rigged 7" purple ribbed gulp with a twirl tail. i ended up not spotting any bass on the bed edge, the way this bed is set up its about 100 yards offshore in 6-7 feet of water, its basically about a 1/2 mile long rectangle and the north edge starts in a great rock bed that leads all the way to the shore the avarage depth of the rocks is 5" tapering up to the shore, its a great place to jig fish on summer days. so i took my worm and started a slow drift of the rocks, a few casts in i took a big jig and the worm broke the surface and right as it did a bass grabbed it he was small but as i reeled him in i saw a group of bass following him to the boat with 2 big bass in the back of the pack. I got real excited and started pulling in bass every few casts none with any good size again around 1-2lbs, i hadnt checked my phone to see what time it was so while i was putting on a new worm i looked and it was 0935 and i still needed to clean up before work so i tossed out 1 last cast and watched a big bass swim out from under my boat so i reeled in quick and dropped it a few feet in front of him, he swam by and grabbed it but i set the hook too early and pulled it out i let it drop again and another hit and again i missed the hookset, i was mad to see that my worm had bunched up by the barb and didnt think hed hit again but i let it drop and he grabbed it off the bottom and i let him have it for a for a few seconds and bam set the hook got him in the boat and id say he was around 3lbs. It was a great way to start the day before having to go to work again i got a few pics of him and ill post them when i get home

Thanks for reading if these are to long let me know ill shorten my next ones

haha yes i barely made it, i ran to my house from the dock and took the fastest shower of my life. it was worth it.

I have tried top water in the past with little luck i dont have a big selection of top water baits so im sure that has something to do with it, but i know we dont really have any frog population so those never work. I dont know what it is but i just cant produce good numbers with top water which makes me mad because i went to the local Forest Preserve pond with a top water frog and i caught one small bass but watching them hit top water is the greatest thing ever i got a rush and i want more of it

it is been my experience that top water bites are everywhere! regaurdless of frog population or not. dawg baits work well too or poppers since they don't represent a frog as much as a wounded bait fish. swim baits too.

sweet report! I've heard good things about out there...
try using topwaters either early in the morn or late in the eve and before a storm hits us. The last is my favorite and best time. I like popR's and zara spooks. My favorite colors are chrome/black or white/blue. I've caught some of the bigger bass in the lakes by me on saltwater sized topwater baits early early in the morning. You don't catch many, but when you do get bit, HANG ON!

I hate to say this, but throw a swim frog, you can get a great reaction, but will probably miss the fish, after the blow up toss the senco in. I curse those frogs every time I use them, but what a great way to get blow ups.

Sounds like you are doing fine with the worms and that's a good one to get good at.
