Well I did what I said I would never do. I broke down and bought some ice fishing gear. I guess the cabin fever finally got to me. Well for the first time out my kid and I met up with Steve and Paul at one of my little ponds in Bartlett. We got out there about 7am, and started out on the west end of the pond in deeper water. About 10 to 12 feet. Got on some little gills nothing of any size. Would have been perfect size for bait if we were fishing for Pike. We then moved over to the east side in shallower water. About 4 to 6 feet. We drilled some holes, set a couple of tipups and went to work in the other holes. I was immediately on a school of perch. Didn't even know there were perch in this pond. I was pulling them out one after another. Paul said I want some of that action and came over to join the fun. He was there for no longer than 15 minutes and pulled out the biggest of the day. I believe it was a little over 10 inches. Lots of small gills also. My kid ended up drilling a hole away for us and got on some good crappies. See his post in the kids forum. We all had a blast out there today and I thank Steve and Paul for coming out and showing us the ropes. I also thank them for giving my kid some line for his new rod. For the first time out on the ice I think we did pretty well. I'm not addicted yet, but it was a blast.I'm having some problems uploading some pics. As soon as I get into photobucket I'll post somemore.

Very nice guys! Steve, nice jigging technique dude! (1st pic) I've definitely noticed more sensitivity and quicker hook-sets with the pencil grip. There's ice fishin magazines out there too that help my learning curve a lot. Infisherman ice edition, "Ice Fishing", Midwest Outdoors, etc... Glad to see ya gettin out and enjoying it Tom! Another addict! :D

So I have 20+ year experience on the ice. Its my thing. Got ? I am smarter then a 5th grader. I also fish some of the same water you guys are. Sea ya on the hard top. aka Tip-up Tim

It was fun. No bass but lots of decent crappies, mostly caught by Jack(Tom's son). Both Tom and Jack found 2 very productive areas. (Until I popped my hole and scared all of Jack's crappie!!! My fault Jack.) Like Father, Like Son.
