I just got a coupon from cabela's for a quantum Accurist Pt for only $60. Just wanted to know if its a decent reel for the money. They usually go for $129..

lol you dont need a coupon however i have it aswell. they are sold online for 60... at cabelas. the bargain cave. I picked one up about 4 months ago when they were 80. Theyre good reels overall. Deffiently worth the money. I have it on my kistler 7 foot XH and use it for pitching, punching, and even jigs. good reels overall. it fits perfect for my purpose since i pont punch that must. Does well with my 17lb p-line. Let us know your review if you happen to get it.

:mad:i got two accurist pt burners earlier this year. they where awesome to start but by the time summer came the drag was slipping on both of them. and i personally will never buy the burner series again. just fyi the beginning of the year i thought i was getting a deal because list on these reels was around 129.00. but i had a rebate for 30 dollars thinking i was getting a deal. two months after the rebate offer was done they where selling them for $80. and in my opinion..... with good reason.

It may be simple, but what line did you have on it. I had a corado that did this and it ended up being line slip. with no backer line, this happens a lot.

Hey guys, for whatever it's worth I have been using Quantum reels exclusively now for about 6 years. I have a bunch of different models including many of their top of the line reels. Recently, I have had a lot of luck with the AC500CX. For the price $80 they have performed well and held up to heavy use. I wouldn't hesitate to use that model on all my poles.
The thing that impressed me the most with Quantum is when I send one in for a repair they only charge me for shipping (5.95) and sent back a virtually bran new reel.

Likewise I've been using mostly Quantums for the same exact time-span for all of my fishing for multi-species. Because I have a Quantum PT jersey and like 10 different hats from them, people think I'm sponsored by them (i wish!), but it's because I'm a tackle whore who is in love with this company's products.

I'm really miffed about their customer service lately. Had a Catalyst PT spinning reel blow out its clutch/instant anti-reverse and they want me to pay them $22 just to get it fixed or replaced. Still under 1yr manufacturers warranty, WTF Man! If it wasn't so damn impossible to open that reel up and get into the internals I would have done it all by myself!

Anyways . . . . .

I have an Accurist PT burner I use for spinnerbaiting and the standard 500pt for cranking and multi-purpose. I'm in the market for another burner as I've been able to find them online for about $60 and I'd like to throw heavy braid on this one to use for Pike fishing and Bassin' thru the heavy stuff. For the price and its functions, and because this reel is now being replaced by the ugly orange Catalyst in Quantum's lineup, I don't think this reel can be beat! Get them while they're still out there.

If you guys don't mind me posting a link, I wrote this long review on the Accurist for my site last year. It's as honest as any review gets. http://www.fishing-headquarters.com/reviews/accurist.html

dont get me wrong guys, i like the accurist i already have and was really excited when the burners came out last year. but was really let down by them after 3 months of use. jimbo c'mon dude :D of course i use backing. and fishkid's pt is geared lower then mine and is really smooth casting. i know..... i have tried it. all im saying is that the burners, and i completely stand by this.... are trash!! i mean i bought two of them and for the drag to slip on both really tells you about the consistency of craftmanship on them.

and just a couple of other things:

why get rid of the burner after just one year of service?
also, catchingbigbass: have you ever used the burner?

I also exclusively use Quantum’s.

Only problems I have had was a few years back the finish would come off. I sent back to Quantum (I paid the shipping) and they sent new ones at no cost.

This was after I had used them for the season.

I'll bet if you called them (Warranty & Service: 1-800-588-9030) they would have you send them back and replace.

If you look at the specs the drag on the burners are not as strong. Also, it helps if you back off the drag on any reel at the end of the day. The drag washers are then supposed to last longer.
I have had some issues with certain models.
The finish has come off of some of mine also. However, I also fish salt water with them.

14lbs of pressure isn't enough?

I was able to bring in a 25lb Musky on mine last year! Pulling drag. :p

MadCraw, Quantum already discontinued the ENTIRE line of Accurists. I have no idea why and it seems pretty stupid in my book.

I believe they have come up with another design altogether. The top of the line PT now retails for about $280.

I emailed quantum and they came back with 16lbs of lock drag on the burner model. this was back in august when emailed them with my problem. looking into it andrew your right about 14lbs being enough for a lot of species in these parts. my bantam curado was rated for like 12 and I frog with that reel and have had no problems with slipping. i'll give them another call and see what happens. and really thanks guys.

ok so I sent in both of my accurist pt burners for repairs with copies of reciepts for both of them. they are well with in a year of the warranty so will see what happens. whether everything turns out ok or not i'll let everyone know.

also, me and sexy shad went to cabelas and she bought herself the accurist pt.
they are now 58.00 russ.

i believe the star drag is the reason why one of them cranks funny now. i let tommy use it during a tournament and he really cranked down on the star drag and all of a sudden it was showing resistance whil cranking. quantum has just emailed me telling me the issue is closed.
"your reels are dirty and need to be oiled and greased. "

i hope that fixes everything cuz i kinda feel like there writing me off. i don't like to be written off.

ok so i got my reels back and noticed oil on the outside of them (looked like hotsauce) kind of a shotty job but thanks for the oil job anyway quantum. oh ya and they didn't charge me for it but still failed to address my original complaint "drag slippage." same as before except now if i rip through weeds on a lipless crank bait the drag slips:mad:. they cast pretty good still just a shame that i have that drag problem on both reels although one of them is worse off than the other. so needless to say im now in the market for another reel "NOT" made by quantum.

hey fryguy, did you ever buy the reel?
