I heard today that there will soon be a hearing to pass a SPEED LIMIT regulation on the Fox Chain, Illinois! And the proposed speed is 35 mph.

This could be a disaster to all the businesses which count on the tournaments, boat races, poker runs, speed boaters, etc.! This is NOT good news.

Please post information on this board regarding this, so we can rally the necessary troops to prevent this from happening.

Support "No Speed Limit" For Chain O'Lakes!

The next Fox Waterway Agency Meeting to discuss the proposed speed limit and noise reduction on the Chain O' Lakes will be held on
February 14, 2008 at
The Fox Waterway Building in Fox Lake,

Behind the McDonalds on Rt. 12 at 6:00pm

If you have an opinion about the possible imposition of daytime waterway
speed limits and noise levels, please make an appearance. We need every
one to be there to let them know we don't want it and don't need it.

We should point out to them if they put a speed limit on the chain those big boats will throw off bigger wakes silting in channels and washing peoples shores away. I agree with the waterway that it is getting crowded and dangerous out there. We should point out what really damages the waterway out here. The true problem on the chain is the size of the boats that come on the waterway. I hate to say put a size restriction on the boats but maybe that is what the chain needs. This is not lake michigan or the ocean and i see many boats that dont belong out here. I will be at the meeting on Feb 14th to speak out.

If they are trying to protect the water quality then the size restriction will help. There have also been quite a few documented accidents on the chain as a result of the wake from large boats.
There does not appear to be very many accidents as a direct result of speed. So why have a speed limit?

The only reason I don't have one is the cost, but they do fly.

they need that limit on the Chain!! i get up to Channel lake, or down to Pistakee, and I'm fishing used water! all well, it makes winning that much sweeter! remember, it's not the size of the boat, it's how you use it!
